The Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr. Olamigoke Jatuwase, has denied that the council imposed N1,500 monthly levy on Point of Sale (PoS) operators in the area.
Jatuwase, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Sadare Taiwo, said the information was “fake news”.
The chairman said that he never discussed such matter with his vice chairman nor issued any circular on it.
“There is information being spread on social media platforms that Ilaje Local Government issued a circular in which all Point of Sale (PoS) business operators in the local government area should be paying a sum of N1, 500 monthly, backed by a letter headed paper.
“Let it be known to the general public or residents of Ilaje Local Government Area that the said information is not true but a fake news and it doesn’t emanate from the local government authority.
“Moreover, the letter headed paper used in spreading this spurious and untrue information is not an official letter head paper of Ilaje Local Government; it was fabricated, and Mr Chairman never gave his vice chairman any order to issue such a forged circular.
“This is the true position of Ilaje Local Government on the matter,” Jatuwase said. (NAN)
