IGP withdraws police escorts from Fani-Kayode, Emeka Offor, Babachir Lawal, Christ Embassy, 56 others

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu has ordered the withdrawal of police escorts from 60 prominent Nigerians and organisations including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and billionaire businessman, Emeka Offor.

Also on the list are Christ Embassy, Think Nigeria First Initiative, Uche Sylva International, Stanel Groups and KYC Holding.

Equally included are Sen Lado Yakubu, Amb. Yuguda Bashir, Uche Chukwu, Sen. Boroface Ajayi, Mutiu Nicholas, Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi, Edozie Madu, David Adesanya, Chris Giwa, Chief Godwin Ekpo, Chief Pius Akinyelure among others.

According to The Punch,  the directive was contained in a letter with reference no.CB: 4001/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.116/32.

The letter dated November 4 was signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, DCP Idowu Owohunwa .

It was addressed to Commissioners of Police, Police Mobile Force, Special Protection Unit and all Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Recall that the Adamu had on October 21 ordered all policemen attached to VIPs to be withdrawn amid the #EndSARS.

In the directive, the IGP that “any commander who violates this order will bear the consequences.”

In spite of the order, some VIPs continued to move around with police escorts.

But in the latest directive, the affected VIPs were named.

Adamu said that the directive on withdrawal of police escorts from the named VIPs and organisations was to be executed with “immediate effect”.

According to the latest directive, senior officers must submit a report confirming compliance not later than November 10.
