“We have been deploying our policemen, civil defence and other paramilitary men to provide security to the communities.

“We are here to dialogue with the military on the process of returning civil authorities to some of the liberated communities,” he said.

Idris said that the visit was aimed at synergising with the military on the process of returning civil authorities to the communities.

He explained that objective of the visit was to ensure that the police and other security agents took over the liberated communities to relief the military.

“We are here to ensure that no vacuum is created as the communities are liberated, we will take over so the military can move on.

“Our coming is also to address our officers and men to see where we can make adjustments, to make sure we provide adequate welfare for them.
“Actually we want to make sure that all welfare meant for them are delivered to boost their morale,” Idris said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the IGP also presented food and other relief materials worth millions of naira to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as part of the visit.

He also launched a police medical outreach for the IDPs in Maiduguri.
