Igbo leaders have demanded for the release of their son, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and other prisoners of conscience, stating that their actions were in line with the rule of law.
They also requested for the reconstruction of the country to enable Igbos have access to an easy life free of discrimination, as they have made the most sacrificial and meaningful contributions to the growth of the nation.
In a summit attended to by dignitaries of Igbo origins, such as General Ike Nwachukwu Ezeife, Col. Joe Achuzia (rtd), Chief Francis Orji, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and many others, at the three-day 2016 World Igbo Summit held at Gregory University, Uturu, Abia state, the leaders condemned the activities of herdsmen.
They criticized the government for not handling the crisis associated with the destructive activities of these herdsmen as a matter of urgency, stating that lives were endangered with the continuous attacks of the men who graze their animals in various parts of Igboland.
At the end of the meeting, the leaders resolved the need to oversee the building and development of the economy, so as to enable positive results in the land.
The communiqué, which was read by Mr Sam Ohuabunwa, said in part,
“Ndigbo hereby resolve to take full responsibility for the rebuilding of the Igbo economy and development of Ala-Igbo, hereby adopting the digital economy as the organising paradigm and implementatiom framework for the sustainable development of Ala-Igbo.
“That Igbo political leadership must act in the best interest of Ndigbo and be prepared to be held accountable by the people for all their actions and inactions; that in view of the threat by the herdsmen, which constitute present and imminent danger to peace and security in their land, the Igbo Governors and State Assemblies should immediately legislate against any form of open grazing in Igboland among others.”
