Igboho’s aide: Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos still on course

Olayomi Koiki, the Media Aide of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho says a rally planned to curry the support of Lagos residents towards the cause will hold on Saturday, July 3 as originally planned.

He stated this on Facebook Live while debunking media reports of the rally’s cancellation.

Koiki’s assurance came amid opposition by the Lagos State Police Command which warned that no one would be allowed to lock down the state in the guise of a rally.

After Thursday’s attack on his home by the Department of State Services (DSS), Igboho had also said that the rally had been cancelled.

But in the early Friday morning video, which has since gone viral, Koiki assured that the rally would proceed whether or not Igboho joined.

“I heard that the commissioner of police said no rally will hold, tell them to expect us. We will know who owns Lagos on Saturday between Yoruba people or Sanwo-Olu or police. We will all meet on Saturday during the rally.

“If everything will be ruined, let it be on Saturday. They have the choice of letting us have our protest peacefully or causing violent. Police should be held responsible for any violence.

“Let us take all our grievances to Ojota at 9 am on Saturday,” Koiki said.

Recall that another party to the rally, Prof Banji Akintoye-led Ilana Omo Oodua, earlier said that there was no going back on the rally.

“We want to confirm again that the Pro-Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 3rd, in Lagos will proceed as scheduled,” Akintoye said in a statement made available to the media by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye.
