A new twist has been added to the already thick plot of the quarrel between Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole and the Igbinedion family.
Oshiomhole, who commissioned some projects in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state, which is the ancestral home of the Igbinedions, said he was not on good terms with the Esama of Benin and patriarch of the family, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, because he failed to respect his office as governor of the state.
Mrs Lucy Imagbon, the Chairman of the council, who executed the projects, had appealed to the governor to settle his quarrel with the Igbinedion family.
But in his reaction, Oshiomhole said he had no axe to grind with the family.
He said: “I heard the Chairman talking about my quarrel with Igbinedion. I have no problem with anybody. There are only four levels of government, federal, state, local and traditional institution. The House of Igbinedion does not belong to any of this. He is a chief and I respect him as a chief but he must respect constituted authorities, the office of the governor of Edo State. This governor cannot be harassed, he cannot be blackmailed. And I stand ready to defend that office.”
