British actor Idris Elba has announced plans to relocate to Africa within the next decade to support the continent’s burgeoning film industry.
Elba, who has Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean roots, made the announcement at a film industry event in Ghana.
“I would certainly consider settling down here; not even consider, it’s going to happen. I think I’ll move in the next five, 10 years, God willing,” Elba said.
The actor plans to establish film studios in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Accra, Ghana, as part of his vision to strengthen local filmmaking.
Elba also teased his upcoming TV series adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s renowned book, “Things Fall Apart,” where he will play the main character, Okonkwo.
The actor emphasized his dedication to promoting African stories, culture, and languages, countering harmful stereotypes.
“If you watch any film or anything that has got to do with Africa, all you’re going to see is trauma… So, it’s really important that we own those stories,” Elba concluded.
