The House of Representative on Wednesday has declared it unwavering stand on the issue concerning displaced people alleged to have been raped in Internally Displaced Persons vowed to unravel alleged ongoing cases of rape in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across the country.
Subsequently a motion was moved by Rep. Hassan Saleh (Benue-APC) on the “need to investigate the untoward activities going on in various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Nigeria.”
Moving the motion, Saleh said that the reason had to be more effort on the part of the government in providing care and protection of the IDPs .was not enough.
“There are several IDP camps all over the country due to the continuous invasion by Boko Haram which has led to the displacement of many innocent citizens from their communities.”
He expressed dismay over the publication in one of the national dailies of Dec. 17, 2017 which dished the appalling conditions which IDPs in Nigeria were subjected to.
He expressed worry that the controversies of rape, sex for food and materials, rampant pregnancy and abandonment of young mothers and their children were rampant in all the camps nation wide.
“There are also cases of pilfering of relief materials and extortion ravaging the camps.” lamented Saleh.
