Veteran record producer and music executive, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has shared a heartfelt account of his former signee, Olamide’s departure from his record label, Coded Tunes. In a recent appearance on the ‘Afrobeats Podcast,’ Cabasa revealed that he shed tears when Olamide was leaving, highlighting the emotional bond they shared.
Cabasa reminisced about meeting Olamide at just 13 years old, when he came to his studio with a friend who wanted to feature him on a song. He described Olamide as quiet and unassuming, but his talent was undeniable. “Olamide became more like a son to me,” Cabasa said, emphasizing the close relationship they developed over the years.
When Olamide decided to leave Coded Tunes in 2012, Cabasa admitted it was a painful experience. “It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave,” he explained. Despite his initial reluctance, Cabasa ultimately gave Olamide his full blessings, understanding his desire to explore new opportunities.
Olamide went on to launch his own record label, YBNL Nation, which has become a successful platform for nurturing talent and producing hit music. Cabasa’s account serves as a testament to the strong mentorship and guidance he provided during Olamide’s formative years, shaping the artist he is today.
