ICC unveils logo for 2017 Women Cricket World Cup

2 Min Read

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the logo for the 2017 Women’s World Cup in England.

An online portal, Insidethegames, on Sunday said the emblem “reflects the unique connection between the spirit of the sport and its place of origin in England and Wales’’.

It said that the logo featured a cricketer playing a forward stroke which was an “inspirational link’’ to the distinctive outline of England and Wales.

It added that it also explained the dynamic essence of cricket and its special relationship with the host nation over and above the gender of players.

The portal said that the 11th edition of the tournament would feature games at Bristol, Derby, Leicester and Taunton, while the final would hold at the Lord’s ground in London.

According to the portal, David Richardson, ICC Chief Executive said that the tournament is taking place in its spiritual home where it started.

It noted that it could not get any bigger than the women’s cricket.

“This is nicely encapsulated in the logo, which reflects a celebration of women’s cricket in the host country’s colours.

“The next 12 months will be exciting for women’s cricket as the top nations aim for the ultimate prize in women’s cricket.

“The sport is on a high, and I am sure next year’s event will take it even to greater heights with outstanding cricket and record breaking attendances,’’ it said.

The statement added that top four sides from the ICC Women’s Championships would automatically qualify for the World Cup, with a qualification tournament confirming the rest of the participants.
