Ibadan Electricity Distribution Co. restores power to Oyo communities after 3 years

2 Min Read

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, has restored power supply to Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, as it commissioned the rehabilitated 2X15MVA, 33/11KVA Substation at Akanran Road, Olorunsogo along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

The rehabilitated sub-station, with two 15MVA injections, distributes power to the local government and other communities from five local government areas in Ibadan.

The substation was burnt down three years ago during the national fuel hike protests and this ugly incident led to the three-year darkness experienced at Ona-Ara, Akanran, Asolo, Olunloyo, Omowunmi, Oremeji, Ogbere, Olorunsogo and environs.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, IBEDC Chairman, Dr. Olatunde Ayeni, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Fortunato Leynes, said IBEDC was as an organisation bound by core values of teamwork, innovation, excellence, integrity and dependability and “we are committed to building a world class utility company where performance and exceptional service delivery comes naturally.”

Also speaking, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State described the occasion as “a thing of joy to me as the governor of Oyo State and a delight to our government.”

He counselled residents and community leaders in the area to protect the power infrastructure and make it sustainable.

IBEDC Deputy Managing Director, Mr John Darlington, commended the leadership qualities of the governor and lauded the residents for standing by the company.

He said “Our customers are the reason we exist,” urging them to pay their bills and avoid short-changing the company via bypassing prepaid metres and illegal connections.
