In what sports analysts have called “the best race of his career”, Usain Bolt was a hundreth of a second faster than favorite America’s Justin Gatlin to win the world 100m title.
Gatlin was on a 28 race unbeaten run and was the clear favorite coming into the final at the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, but the odds were in favour of Bolt.
Here is how Michael Johnson, a BBC Sports analyst put it:
“I’m amazed. This is Usain Bolt’s best race ever. He knew it was a completely different set of circumstances for him. He’ll be most proud of this win without a doubt. It’s not about technique, it’s about running for your life and he’s got the talent to be able to do that.”
