Super Eagles striker Chisom Chikatara has expressed his disappointment over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the quarter-finals of this year Africa Nations Championship here in Rwanda.
The Abia Warriors FC striker said he never envisaged Nigeria’s elimination from the tournament given the way the team won their opening game and picked a draw against Tunisia.
“Honestly I never saw us crashing out of the competition because of the way we started this campaign,” the tournament’s top scorer with four goals said.
“We gave our best and never saw it coming.
“Our vision was to win the trophy and make Nigerians back home proud but I am highly disappointment with our performance against Niger.
“I was already dreaming about playing in the quarter-finals and hoping to increase my goals but it is painful the campaign had to end here.”
Nigeria failed to go beyond the first round after losing 1-0 to the Syli Stars of Guinea despite needing just a point to qualify for the quarter-finals.
