At this time, I think it’ll be rather pretentious to act oblivious to the recent demand for Nigerian men. I mean from the likes of Tamar Braxton down to Porsha Williams now Porsha Dyanne Guobadia, Nigerian men seem to be the next big thing.
With this new show however? It has everyone talking; some good, some bad..but talking? That we all are.
A dating show that seeks to bring South Africans and Nigerians together and celebrate the diversity of the two African giants sounds fun..until it’s not.
From the little teaser trailer, the plot of the show simply involves Nigerian men wooing South African women in a villa, much like love island but in this case it’s the giants of Africa.
Amidst the initial excitement when Showmax had dropped the teaser trailer, were people with actual concerns.
Let’s take a look at the recently concluded Big Brother Titans which had about 10 Nigerian housemates and 10 South African housemates upon the season’s start. We would carry on to witness not only arguments but romantic involvements between housemates from both countries. This led the fans to not only have rather crass comments but also xenophobic comments about housemates from the opposing country.
The reactions from Twitter users based off of just one clip of the show speaks loudly of what may be in store for us through the season.
Although “I Want A Naija Boy” looks like it has not only friendship but genuine romance in store for us, we can’t help but agree with the last tweet reference and say, we wait to see the drama unfold.
