“I think that is way premature” – Ted Cruz reacts to calls for Trump to concede defeat

Republican Senator Ted Cruz says it is “way premature” for President Donald Trump to concede defeat in the 2020 presidential polls.

Major news networks on Saturday called the race for Democratic Party candidate, Joe Biden, after he picked up 20 electoral votes in Pennsylvania to cross the 270 threshold required to win the election.

Trump has challenged the results in some states.

Cruz, a major Trump supporter, said the president should not be expected to concede defeat when the Supreme Court has yet to rule on the results.

“I think that is way premature.

“At this point, we do not know who has prevailed in the election,” the Texas senator told Fox News Sunday morning.

He added that “the media is desperately trying to get everyone to coronate Joe Biden as the next president. But that’s not how it works, the media does not get to select our president; the American people get to elect our president.”

In a Sunday evening tweet, Trump echoed Cruz’s sentiments.

He wrote, “Since when does the Lamestream Media call who our next president will be?

“We have all learned a lot in the last two weeks!”

Earlier on Saturday, the president vowed “unspecified legal challenges”.
