Former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, has dismissed as false allegations he tried to assassinate the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu had alleged severally, including recently whilst giving testimony at Ibori’s asset forfeiture trial in London that he was ambushed on his way to a course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.
The former IG said he never ordered any hit on Ribadu’s life, saying Ribadu influenced the media report on the incident.
He said, “Nigerians will remember that Nuhu Ribadu once caused a newspaper publication to be made to the effect that he was attacked and shot at on his way to NIPSS.
“The Commissioners of Police, FCT, Abuja; Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau, the likely state commands where the incident could have taken place, told me that no such incident occurred in their commands. For him to turn round now and say that I was involved “in attempts to assassinate him” demonstrates double speak. He was an Assistant Inspector-General of Police under me. Why would I want to assassinate a subordinate officer?”
