With the nation still reverberating with the shock waves that followed the former President’s letter in January in which he told President Buhari to go home, Obasanjo has admitted that he might have to pen another letter.
He was speaking at the 14th annual lecture of Women in Management, Business and Public Service in Lagos on Thursday.
He stated that he might not be as harsh as he was in the previous letter where tore into president Buhari and his government, calling for a political coalition to move the nation forward in the political sphere.
In the aftermath of this, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement was formed and according to Obasanjo already has 3 million registered voters.
He noted that if Nigerians register for the elections in good time, they would benefit from the ideals of CNM and similar movements.
He also said that when the time was ripe, he’d step away from the CNM hopefully leaving it in capable hands that will steer it right.
Speaking to the women, he also urged that they fight for more visibility in a political landscape dominated by men.
He said; “If only womanhood was enough, Mrs Clinton would have made it to the White House but she had a man (Donald Trump) who did what he could do to get to power,” he said.
“I don’t want or expect women to climb palm trees to harvest bunch of palm fruits. If anybody says he wants to see my mother climb palm trees, I will take a second look at that person.
“But women must do what it takes to succeed in Nigerian political space.
“To you women, do not allow anybody to build your world for you. Build your world for yourself. Yes, women need encouragement but they must do enough for themselves.”
