I Masterminded Onazi’s House Robbery – Family Friend

The Lagos state police command has arrested four men in connection with the Onazi family robbery which was occurred on Monday and ws made public in the early hours of Tuesday.

Recall that the Nigerian midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi’s father, Mr. Wilson Onazi was reported to have been assaulted during the robbery process which led to loss of valuables including an undisclosed amount of money and a Toyota Highlander vehicle.

Mr Musa Alimi, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajangbadi Division led men of the anti-crime unit to arrest the robbers who were apprehended at a Lagos hotel.

A source within the police force revealed that the men were arrested around 7:00pm on Wednesday while trying to initiate an exchange for the vehicle.

The Police source said: “We got a tip-off that some suspicious people had lodged in a hotel in the area. They had been trying to initiate for a buyer of the SUV, but were yet to get.”

The intending buyer of the SUV, Mr Osita Eze, who was also arrested noted that recently introduced to the gang on one of his visits to the hotel.

A family friend of the Onazi’s, Kinglsley David, 24, who masterminded the attack said he meant no harm to the family but wanted the gang to take the SUV for the Sallah celebration.

He said: “I am a family friend of the Onazis and I live close to their house in Jos. I informed my friends about this plan, and pointed the house to them and they finished the job. I joined them in the vehicle when they had already concluded.”

Another suspect, Mr Ugochukwu, a 28-year-old indigene of Idemili, Anambra state, stated that they robbed Mr Onazi because he is stingy. He further added that the robbery was an easy task as Onazi’s father lived alone and unattended to.

He also noted that the victim was inebriated at the time of attack.

“We demanded for money, he said he only had #5000, which he gave us, we did not take his ATM as speculated.”

Ali Adu, a graphic designer and also a member of the gang confessed to acting as the delivery man. He said: “I acted as a postman, when I knocked, the man asked who was there and I told him I had a letter from Lagos addressed to him. Immediately he opened the gate, we all went inside. This was happening by 11am in the morning.”

The Lagos state Commissioner of police, Mr Fatai Owoseni while confirming the arrest noted that the apprehended suspects along with other exhibits recovered would be handed over to the Plateau State Police Command for further investigation.
