A notorious pickpocket, Femi Solomon, has been singing like a bird since he was arrested by men of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday.
The auto technician, who also traded in secondhand clothes, said he had stolen at least 1,200 phones from Lagosians since he started operations on his own in April 2016.
Solomon, 28, claimed that he was introduced to the crime by a 50-year-old man identified as Ismaila while he (Solomon) was trading in secondhand clothes in Obalende.
Solomon revealed that he usually operated from 6pm to 9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The suspect said he operated within Ajegunle, Iyana Oworo to Ketu, Ojota and Oshodi to Mile 2.
Luck however ran out on him while trying to steal a Samsung phone from a commuter in the Iyana Oworo area of the state on Thursday as he was caught.
“I usually start operation at 6:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. My target was between four to five mobile phones in a day. Once I was able to hit that number, I would close for the day and go home. I used to sell the phones to a friend, who resides on Lagos Island. In my estimation, I have stolen over 1200 phones between Lagos bus stops and commercial buses,” he told the police.
