David Luiz has apologised for rejoicing after scoring for Paris Saint-Germain against former club Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian defender, who left the Blues for PSG in the summer, produced a powerful header to equalise for the French giants in the 86th minute of their Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge.
PSG eventually went on to progress to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition on away goals after a 2-2 draw in London but Luiz was quick to ensure the Blues still held a place in his heart.
“It was good for me to score,” Luiz told Sky Sports.
“I said before I wouldn’t celebrate, but it was so emotional – I couldn’t control myself. Thank you to Chelsea because they support me a lot but also I’m sorry for celebrating.
“My cycle finished at Chelsea and I had a great opportunity from PSG.
“They gave me a great opportunity to try and continue my career. I was very happy at Chelsea but the cycle finished. I respect everyone here.”
