Meanwhile, Local auto manufacturer, Innoson Nigeria Limited has approached the Federal High Court to seek an order stopping Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) from transforming from a public limited liability company to a private and financial holding company until it pays debts totalling N32 billion allegedly owed the car manufacturer.

Innoson argued that GTB intended to change its legal status to avoid paying the debt, which the car manufacturer said was initially N8.2 billion but rose to N32 billion as a result of accumulated interest.

Both companies have been at loggerheads for long over the disputed debt.

GTBank accused Innoson’s Chairman, Innocent Chukwuma, of forging import documents in a bid to defraud the bank but failed in its bid to arraign the businessman.

On the other hand, the auto maker said the accusation was a trumped-up one by the bank to avoid the debt payment.

Joined as co-defendants in the latest suit are Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
