I am ashamed that Ghana is mocking Nigeria over security, naira – Jonathan

1 Min Read
Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed regret that Nigeria has become a laughing stock before the international community, especially in the eyes of West African neighbours Ghana.

Speaking yesterday in Ekiti while inaugurating a project executed by Governor Ayodele Fayose, Jonathan said that negative remarks made by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo about Nigeria should be a wake-up call to Nigerian leaders.

Akufo-Addo reportedly said that Ghana would never be like Nigeria where cattle roam the streets. He was also quoted as bashing the naira’s weakening status against international currencies.

But reacting, Jonathan said, “He (Akufo-Addo) said Ghana is not like Nigeria where cattle roam the streets. At another occasion in the United Kingdom, he made scathing remarks about Nigeria’s currency.

“I feel ashamed as a former President that the president of a neighbouring country used Nigeria as negative examples.

“If a neighbouring African president will use Nigeria to make negative examples, then we as leaders must know certain things are wrong in the country. That means we as leaders must change the way we do things.”
