I always loved Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester United colours – Bruno Fernandes

3 Min Read

Bruno Fernandes joins Manchester United for a fee of around 55 million Euros with add-ons taken it to around 80 million euros from sporting Lisbon.

“For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible,” said Portuguese international Fernandes.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the midfielder was a fantastic addition to his squad who are badly in need of a midfield option.

In a January transfer window that has been unexpectedly quiet so far, Fernandes’ move is the biggest coming at 55 million euros. That is nothing when compared to last summer or with some big moves that have happened in the Premier League but that underlines just how quietly a transfer window we’ve had.

Fernandes signed a five-year contract that runs until 2025 with an option to extend it by one more year.

“My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club,” added Fernandes.

“I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies.

“I want to thank Sporting for everything they have done for me. It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team.”

Fernandes joined sporting for 7.2 million pounds from Sampdoria in 2017 under the club’s former manager Carlos Carvalhal.

The midfielder scored 64 goals in 137 appearances in all competitions for Sporting and won the Portuguese league in the 2018/2019 season.

Fernandes bagged the Primera Liga Player of the Year award in both the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. He has 19 caps for his country and won the UEFA Nations League in 2019.

Manchester United manager speaking said;

Bruno’s goals and assists stats speak for themselves, he will be a fantastic addition to our team and he will help us push on in the second part of the season.

We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team.

Most importantly he is a terrific human being with a great personality and his leadership qualities are clear for all to see
