Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle

The Zamfara State Government has returned 26 victims kidnapped by bandits in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State five days ago.

The victims, mostly girls, were returned to Katsina State Sunday night by Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Muhammad Dauran, on the orders of Governor Bello Matawalle.

Matawalle was said to have secured their release for free following successful negotiations with repentant bandits.

The victims were said to have undergone medical checkups and provided with new clothes before their return.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Dauran said the state government would intensify negotiations with the bandits to secure the release of more kidnap victims and ultimately return peace to the state.

He said negotiations so far have produced “a lot of benefits” translating into better security in the state.

“We are going to intensify negotiation with the bandits for dialogue because we have seen a lot of benefits and achievement in our state regarding security; so, dialogue with bandits is still relevant,” Dauran said.

Reacting, Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari said his administration would continue to collaborate with Zamfara to achieve peace in the North-West geopolitical zone.
