How Victor Moses’ International Retirement Can Ruin His Club Career- Former Coach

3 Min Read

Victor Moses shocked the footballing world when he announced his international retirement at the age of 27

But according to former Nigerian Coach, Henry Nwosu, this could be an unwise decision which could destroy his club career.

Victor Moses enjoyed a lot of game time under former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte where he was deployed as a Right Wing Back in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. He was instrumental in Chelsea’s league win 2 years ago.

However, he finds his place under threat as new coach, Sarri, has moved Chelsea back to a 4-3-3 and while Moses was used as a substitute in the win against Huddersfield, it is unknown if he will be able to keep his place.

According to Nwosu, who spoke to Goal.com, Victor Moses’ decision was unwise and could diminish his standing at club level.

He said: “I don’t think it’s a wise decision because he is still very young. He needs to play for Nigeria to be more recognised at his club because Nigeria is a big name in football,”

“It might make him lose his place in his club, they may look at him as a player who is not playing in the national team so he doesn’t deserve regular playing time.

“For your club, that’s the most important thing because the more you are playing for your club, the better for the national team.

“Club competitions are different from national competitions but you need both to compete at top level. I’m surprised that he has retired now.”

Nwosu also believes that Victor Moses has adequate replacements in the Nigerian team and that his presence won’t be missed as much.

“We have so many players playing in the midfield that are as good as Moses.” he said

“I don’t think we have that gap in the team but being the person he is and the way he plays, I think he is very important in that team and we should try to persuade to have a rethink.

“I hope he has a rethink and change that idea because it’s not wise.”
