The police command in Kogi State has confirmed the killing of Hon. Solomon Adebayo, the Pensions Commissioner in Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.
Adebayo, who was popularly known by his nickname Akeweje, was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen while travelling from Kabba in Kogi State to Ilorin in Kwara State on Saturday evening.
Peoples Gazette quoted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, William Ayah as confirming the incident.
He said that unknown gunmen shot at the commissioner’s vehicle and he died on the spot while his driver sustained serious injuries.
The injured driver was whisked to ECWA Hospital, Egbe alongside others injured in the attack while the commissioner’s remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Aya said that investigation had commenced into the killing of the commissioner who held the title of Akeweje of Eri Land in Kogi.
It could not be immediately confirmed if any belongings of the victim were taken away by the assailants.
