Some members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) that laid siege to the National Assembly complex on Tuesday shot a policeman and an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Shiites, as they are popularly called, were said to have besieged the complex to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky,
They overpowered the security operatives at the gate of the complex, collected one of their rifles and shot a policeman and an NSCDC officer, The Punch reported..
However, Premium Times reported that two policemen and an NSCDC officer was shot.
Workers and visitors to the complex immediately scampered to safety, and the ensuing pandemonium caused the gate of the Assembly to be shut.
Also, the Shiites reportedly entered the main entrance popularly known as MOPOL gate and vandalised the gatehouse
One of the wounded security operatives was said to have been rushed to the assembly clinic at 1.55pm.
