A 24-year-old student of Kwara State University, Oluwadara Adedayo, has been left with severe injuries and pain after some anti-kidnapping policemen forced him to jump from the Cele-Okota Bridge in Lagos.
According to The Punch, the 200-level Material Science Engineering student said he was heading towards the Yaba area of the state when he was accosted by the policemen who searched him.
He said the policemen found a phone and an internet modem on him but nothing incriminating.
Despite this, he said the policemen ordered him into their waiting vehicle without disclosing his crime.
He said they forced him into their vehicle but he was able to escape after he found an opportunity to do so.
The student said his decision to escape emanated from a previous encounter with policemen.
He said, “I jumped out of the bus because of my past experience with policemen. A few months ago, some policemen accosted me at Durba (Lagos) and accused me of being an Internet fraudster without any evidence against me.
“They took me to First Avenue, FESTAC Town , and collected the only N 2 , 000 on me before I was released . I suffered before I got home that day.”
He said on this occasion, he jumped off the bus and ran across the busy road to the Cele-Okota Bridge but one of the policemen chased him on a motorcycle.
“ When I stopped . The policeman quickly parked his motorcycle and pointed his gun at me , threatening to shoot me . Out of fear, I jumped off the bridge . ”
He said he lost consciousness afterwards and he was rushed to hospital by some Good Samaritans who later told him that the policemen took to their heels.
He said, “I was then rushed to the General Hospital, Isolo, from where I was transferred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital , Igbobi.
“ I have not reported the incident in any police station because have just been discharged from the hospital.”
