The Rivers State Police Command says it is investigating the alleged arrest and rape of a widow by a policeman over failure to use face mask.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni disclosed this on Wednesday.
The alleged victim, who declined to give her name to avoid stigmatisation, identified the policeman as Peter Ebah attached to Saakpenwaa Police Division in the Tai Local Government Area of the state.
The widow explained that Ebah was a member of a police team that arrested her for not using a face mask while she was on a bus from Bori, Khana LGA, to Port Harcourt, around 6.30 pm on Tuesday.
The victim disclosed that after detaining her for hours at a checkpoint, Ebah put her in a police van and drove around while pretending to be taking her to the police station.
She said she initially wanted to resist but cooperated after the policeman threatened her.
“After a while, they took me to a guest house, where one of them, Inspector Peter Ebah, from Sakpenwa Police station raped and threatened to kill me if I misbehaved and held me there till this (Wednesday) morning.
“In the morning, he asked me to give him my account number so that he would transfer N2,000 into it. I played along and gave him the account number because I didn’t know what he would do to me if I had refused,” the mother of two said.
