How Obaseki made Edo people lose interest in him – Ize-Iyamu

Ize-Iyamu

The APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has explained how his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Governor Godwin Obaseki, allegedly lost the support of Edo people.

He said that Obaseki, who is seeking a second term, presided over a government that was “completely distracted by needless wars of self-aggrandisement and a complete lack of administrative control” in his first term.

According to Ize-Iyamu, this resulted in “endless internal squabbles between aides, many of whom lost faith in the governor and his style of leadership.”

He added that the state’s development was therefore stalled under the Obaseki administration.

The guber candidate said that the people of the state were urgently seeking a fresh start after losing faith in the present governor’s ability.

“All of these depleted state resources, oftentimes through questionable means, and took a great toll on governance,” he stated.

He noted that Obaseki failed woefully in education, and his failure was evident in that “not a single teacher was hired in four years despite the fact that schools in our rural communities suffer acute shortage of teachers and other personnel.”

The candidate stressed that “a government that failed to prioritise the education of our children, particularly at the primary level, which is the bedrock of all other levels of learning, has failed in its mandate and betrayed the trust of the people — no ifs and buts.”

Ize-Iyamu said that if elected in the September 19 polls, he would hit the ground running with his SIMPLE Agenda to correct the anomalies.
