Nigerian Governors Shared Country’s Wealth Among Themselves – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP), candidate in the 2023 presidential election finally breaks silence on the outcome of the Supreme Court’s October 26, 2023 judgement, The Herald report.

Speaking via a world press conference at his campaign headquarter in Abuja on Monday, Peter Obi asserted that the judiciary has largely acted in defiance of constitutional tenets, precedents, and established ground rules.

Obi added that the political expediency has preceded judicial responsibility, faulted the judgement of the apex court concerning the last election.

Although he agreed that the legal battle had eventually come to an end but described both ‘INEC and the Supreme Court as the referees who respectively shifted the goalposts in the middle of the game’.

The Herald recalls that Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) contested Tinubu’s triumph in the most recent election all the way to the Supreme Court.

Atiku and Obi submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court in response to the outcome of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), which occurred in September.

Their grievances included double nomination, alleged certificate forgery, failure to electronically transmit results, and receiving 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Okoro, rejected all appeals by Atiku and Obi on the penultimate Thursday due to lack of merit.

Consequently, Tinubu’s electoral victory was confirmed.
