Isaac Aloma, famously known as ZicSaloma, has shared the unexpected trajectory of his career, revealing that he transitioned from being a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic to becoming a prominent figure in the world of skit making.
In a recent podcast interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, ZicSaloma shed light on the unconventional path that led him to pursue comedy content creation. He disclosed that he initially embarked on his master’s program while undertaking his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) commitment and has always been fueled by a determination to succeed.
After completing his youth service, ZicSaloma secured a position as a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic. However, he soon found himself drawn towards the world of skit making, a journey he described as “unplanned.”
“I started making skits unplanned. It wasn’t something I took seriously, but it was gaining traction. At first, I was posting my skits on Facebook, and my Facebook friends seemed to like it. They encouraged me to do more. I just kept doing it. I did it for like three years. My fan base wasn’t growing, but the people who liked it liked it,” ZicSaloma narrated during the interview.
The turning point in his skit-making career occurred during the lockdown period when he joined TikTok, a platform that propelled his content to new heights organically.
ZicSaloma faced a significant decision point when he informed his boss about leaving his lecturing job to focus on skit making. Reflecting on this, he recalled his boss’s reaction, saying, “I told my boss that I was quitting my lecturing job, and she was like, ‘Are you sure you know what you’re doing?’ I’m done with lecturing. How much is the lecturer’s salary?”
