Senator Dino Melaye has in a new video, narrated how he was able to escape from the clutches of his would-be murderers.
The lawmaker claimed he was attacked on his way to Kogi state
“They wanted to burn my vehicle, but I quickly opened the car and ran into the bush. I had to run for my life,” he said.
The Senator spoke to journalists about the ordeal on Sunday, explaining that the attack happened around Gwagwalada along the Abuja-Lokoja Road on his way to attend a court case in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
Dino Melaye said he escaped into the bush where he had to hide for around 11 hours.
He added that they tried to burn his car when it was realised that the vehicle was bulletproof.
Dino Melaye said: “When I realised that they wanted to burn my vehicle, I quickly opened the car and ran into the bush. I had to run for my life. It was the grace of God that made me to escape.
“When I got into the bush, I climbed a tree and stayed there. While on the tree, I saw two of the policemen coming to look for me, but they didn’t know I was on the tree. I was in the bush for 11 hours.
“My brother that was in one of the vehicles didn’t know what happened, so he had to raise the alarm that I was kidnapped. He went to the Gwagwalada police station and reported the matter.”
Dino Melaye also spoke to Channels Television, narrating the story and stating that he only made it out by the grace of God. He said he climbed a tree and observed 4 men pass by a couple of times.
He noted that he was in the ‘wilderness’ for 11 hours and trekked with no particular destination in mind. He said he eventually came out and found his way back to Abuja.
Dino Melaye also had a parting shot for detractors who said he made up the story. He said that those who believed that he told the story in a bid to be absent from court, were lying. He noted that logic should show that he had attended court proceedings three times before then.
