Housewife drags uncle to court for calling her husband a drunk

A housewife, Faiza Abdulhamid, on Tuesday dragged a businessman, Shehu Sani, before a  Sharia Court ll sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for allegedly calling her husband a drunkard.

The complainant, Abdulhamid,who is a nephew to Sani, through her Counsel, Shuaibu Abubakar, alleged that the defendant calls her husband unprintable names.

”When ever he visits her in her house, he causes trouble. He calls my client’s husband a drunk.

”The defendant is a brother to my client’s mother. Whenever he has any misunderstanding with my client’s mother, he goes to my client’s house to insult her and her husband Alhaji Auwal Yaro.

“He also goes around telling people around that my client’s husband is a drunk. My client and her husband are well respected people in the community.

”The defendant’s statements are defamatory. His words can bring my client and her husband’s character to disrepute,” he argued.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of Sharia Penal Code 2002.

Sani denied the charge.

Counsel to the defendant, Usman Nda, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Judge, Murtala Nasir, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,00 with one surety in like sum.

Nasir ordered that the surety must be a civil servant not below GL 14 and who is resides in Kaduna.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 7, and ordered the complainant to produce all his witnesses.(NAN)
