The House of Representatives has summoned the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington, over reported serial denial of visa to Nigerians.

According to The Punch, the summon followed a petition by an activist, Kayode Bello, who said he was denied visa without explanation after paying the multiple fees demanded by the Embassy.

Bello had petitioned the House through a member representing Ede and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State, Prof. Mojeed Alabi.

The summon to the US Ambassador was reportedly signed by the House Committee Chairman on Public Petitions, Uzo Azubuike and dated November 27, 2018.

It was titled,  “Indiscriminate denial of United States of America visa and illegal increment of exchange rate of visa fee by the American embassy”.

The summon requested the Ambassador to appear before the House Committee on Public Petitions on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 by 2pm at the House of Representatives Room 429 (New Wing).

The Ambassador was instructed to present 20 copies of his brief on the matter to the committee.

Many Nigerians, especially student applicants, have frequently complained about indiscriminate denial of visa by the American Embassy after payment of numerous non-refundable fees including application fees, evaluation fees, courier fees, service fees, visa fees and school fees.
