Yoshihide Suga, the Japan chief cabinet secretary has disclosed plans of medical experts in Japan to commence clinal trials on HIV drugs for the treatment of Coronavirus disease, Covid-19.
According to reports by Reuters, Suga said;
“We’re currently preparing to start clinical trials using HIV medication on the novel coronavirus.”
However, it has not been disclosed by the chief cabinet secretary the amount of time that will be required for the approval of the drugs and it has been reported that trials of HIV medications are also being proposed in China.
Meanwhile, several clinical trials are still being carried out on the use of the anti-malaria drug, chloroquine phosphate, to treat the new coronavirus disease, Covid-19, which has shown positive results in the recovery of coronavirus patients more than with other medications.
According to reports, the deputy head of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development, Sun Yanrong has said that chloroquine was discovered after several tests on thousands of existing drugs.

Sun further said that coronavirus patients treated with chloroquine “demonstrated a better drop in fever, improvement of lung CT images, and required a shorter time to recover compared to parallel groups”, Clinicaltrialarena reported.
