Suspected Fulani Herdsmen wreaked havoc on the village of Governor Samuel Otorm in Benue State on Sunday morning, killing at least five persons.
The herdsmen invaded Tse-Apera in Nzorov, Guma local government area of Benue State in the wee hours of Sunday, attacking residents as they slept.
According to eye witness account, the assailants knocked on doors and attacked the occupants who answered, beheading at least one person.
A resident names Tseagba spoke about the attack saying,
“The herdsmen were speaking Fulfude language and when they came, they knocked on the doors of people; as people came out to see who was knocking, they attacked them.
“It was the cry of people that woke me up, and this made me to flee and hide in the bush until daybreak when we saw five dead people, one of them beheaded.
The local government Chairman, Caleb Aba, confirmed the incident but said only three people were killed, one of them separated from his head.

“For the people who had not woken up, they knocked at their doors; when they woke up, they were shot. On the spot, they killed two; one of them was beheaded and eight others injured,” he said.
“Those wounded were taken to Teaching Hospital and two to General Hospital in Gbamjimba, but one of the injured, who was taken to the Teaching Hospital, died yesterday (Monday) morning.”
Meanwhile, the State Police Command said only two people died in the attack and it wasn’t aware that any of the dead persons were dismembered.
