Herdsmen Caused Us Great Pain – Gov. Ortom

2 Min Read

Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue has described the herdsmen invasion of 14 of the 23 local government areas of the state earlier in 2016 as disastrous incident which had left the victims in pains.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr Benson Abounu, Ortom spoke on Tuesday when when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai paid him a courtesy call.

Ortom, however, said: “Today, we have relative peace because the army was able to contain the herdsmen and push them back.

“We recognise the importance of the military,” he said.

The governor commended Buratai, saying “since you became chief of army staff, we have seen the difference”.

“What seemed to be impossible have been done, you have decimated the Boko Haram insurgents,” the governor said.

Earlier, Buratai said he was in the state for the quarterly Chief of Army Staff Conference.

He also informed the governor that the army had renovated the broken down water treatment at the North bank of the river Benue.

Buratai said that this was to meet the water needs of people in the immediate community, as well as barracks in the area.

He also said that during the conference the army would carry out medical outreach to address some of the people’s health challenges. (NAN)
