A 40-year-old herdsman, Mohammed Burtu, was on Thursday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly receiving a stolen cow.
Burtu, who resides at Karau-Karau village of Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State is facing a count charge of receiving stolen cow, an offence he denied committing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Musa Abdullahi, told the court that the DPO of Kabala West Divisional Head Quarters, Kaduna transferred the matter to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for more investigation.
According to the prosecutor, one Adamu Yusuf reported the case at the Kabala West Police Station, on April 17, that one of his cows was stolen from him at gun point.
Abudullahi further said that on April 27, the complainant went to Sabon Birnin Market in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State and found his stolen cow in the possession of the defendant.
He said that during police investigation, the defendant claimed that he bought the said cow from one Mohammed Isah, now at large who claimed to be the owner.
The prosecutor said the offence, contravened Section 278 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Mr Huzaifa Maechibo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum and
adjourned the case until June 8, for hearing. (NAN)
