Hollywood actor Henry Cavill might no longer don the red cape and blue tights anymore as it has been reported that he is no longer Superman.
For the last couple of years, the DC universe has been trying its utmost to catch up to the behemoth that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but to no avail.
Movies such as Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice and Justice League have all made money, but have been critically panned and have not hit the audiences in the same way the Marvel movies have.
DC now seem to be taking a new path, a new path that does not involve Cavill.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. “has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine,”

“This effectively removes an actor of Cavill’s age from the storyline’s equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.”
DC is trying to create characters that audiences will be invested in, something they’ve been more adept at doing in their TV universe than in their movie one.
Cavill seems to be fine with this development as he’s always been outspoken about his problems with the DCEU.
He has been quoted as saying that the DCEU franchise “has made money, it hasn’t been a critical success.”
“We can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told,” Cavill said in an interview
“It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.”
It is also quite possible that Ben Affleck who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, could also walk away from the franchise after his standalone Batman movie.
It’ll be interesting to see how this affects the future of the DC universe.
