Helicopter Crashes In Lagos; All Occupants Survive

2 Min Read

A chartered helicopter, with registration number registration No. 5NBJQ, belonging to Bristol Helicopters (Nigeria) Limited crashed in Lagos on Wednesday.

The helicopter, a Sikorsky S-76C++, was enroute Lagos from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when it came crashing down.

However, a company statement denied that the helicopter crashed, claiming that it landed on water.

The company through the statement asserted that all occupants of the helicopter – two crew and nine passengers – survived the crash.

Although no life was lost in the unfortunate incident, some of the occupants of the craft, who have not been identified, sustained various degrees of injury.

They survived the crash by keeping themselves afloat on water using the life jackets provided by the company, the statement read.

The Public Relations Officer (South-West) of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, said rescue workers had already been drafted to the scene of the incident and were on top of the situation, The Punch reports.

This is the second time in barely six months that an aircraft belonging to the company would be involved in a mishap, with a chopper crashing into the Lagos Lagoon on August 12, 2015, killing six of the 12 persons on board.
