FC Augsburg manager Heiko Herrlich has been banned from leading the team out this weekend when the Bundesliga returns after breaking lockdown rules.
Herrlich was set to oversee his first match this weekend when the Bundesliga returns, but will now be unable to after going outside the team hotel to buy toothpaste and face cream.
Herrlich who is a former forward for Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund was appointed as Augsburg boss in March.
In a statement on the club’s website, Herrlich said: “I made a mistake by leaving the hotel. Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when I left the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this.
In this situation, I act as a role model for my team and did not do justice to the public.
I will, therefore, be consistent and stand by my mistake. Because of this misconduct, I will not be leading the training tomorrow and will not be in charge of the team against Wolfsburg on Saturday.”
The Bundesliga will be the first major European league to return from the coronavirus pandemic, and teams have been staying in isolated traning camps to ensure they are still maintaining social distancing from the public.
