According to reports, there was heavy duty at the Benin Airport over fear that Oshiomole would be booed by residents and politicians loyal to his successor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Nation reports that soldiers and two police vehicles were stationed at the entrance gate, while others comprising officials of the Department of State Security, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were stationed at various points of the Airport.
It was learnt that soldiers and policemen took over the entrance of the airport with their vehicles stationed strategically.

Also stationed at various areas within the airport were men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Dr. Pius Odubu, General Charles Airhiavbere, Samson Osagie and APC chieftains loyal to Oshiomhole were reportedly at the airport to receive him.

Some youths were also seen in clusters at the airport chanting anti-Oshiomhole songs.
Recall that In December last year, 15 supporters of the APC loyal to Governor Godwin Obaseki were hospitalized after soldiers and policemen escorting some dignitaries including Oshiomhole that were to attend a political rally in the state fired shots at them
