Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for addressing the freed Kankara secondary school students in Hausa language.
In a Twitter thread early Sunday, the ex-minister reminded Buhari that English is Nigeria’s lingua franca.
Fani-Kayode said it was divisive and inappropriate for the president to address the secondary school students in Hausa in front of the nation’s media.
According to him, Buhari ought to know that millions across the nation prayed for the safe return of the abduction boy, noting that they were Nigerian and not just Hausa-Fulani children.
“You addressed the Kankara students at a public gathering in front of the nation’s media in Hausa rather than English.
“May I remind Mr. President that English is the lingua franca of Nigeria & not Hausa & that those kids are NIGERIAN children and not just Hausa Fulani children,” Fani-Kayode wrote.
“Millions from all over the country, including the South, prayed for their release & they also deserved to understand what you said to the kids when you met them.
“If you want Nigeria to remain one then treat us all as equals. If you do not then carry on with what you are doing,” Fani-Kayode added.
