Gwyneth Paltrow announced her ‘conscious uncoupling’ from husband Chris Martin in March of last year. The 43-year-old actress was candidly sincere when speaking about the split during the Pearl xChange Q&A hosted by Nicole Richie in Los Angeles recently.
Gwyneth revealed divorce was unheard of in her family, which made her marital bust-up all the more difficult after growing up with “high hopes for what my life could be like.”
The actress’ candid speech about the end of her 12 year union with the Coldplay frontman came about when a member in the live audience asked her one question, which was to name one thing in her life that didn’t go as planned.
‘My marriage,’ Gwyneth answered, according to the New York Daily News. ‘I am from a tribe of people who stay married. My parents stayed married until my dad died. I really don’t come from a culture of divorce at all and I had very high hopes for what my life could be like,’ Gwyneth went on.
‘I think that it was very difficult for me that I couldn’t do that and that I wasn’t able to be married to the father of my children for the rest of my life. It was very challenging for me in terms of having to re-assess what that said about me, ideas that I had about that kind of failure.’
The couple have maintained a friendly post-split relationship and holiday together with their two children, Apple, 11, and Moses, nine.
‘Luckily my ex-husband is an incredibly good ex-husband and an amazing dad,’ Gwyneth gushed of Chris.
