Some yet to be identified gunmen have killed four NDLEA officers who were on duty at a checkpoint along the Owo/Benin city road.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday, towards the evening period.
Reports have it that the assailants who were three in number rode to the checkpoint on a motorcycle and had AK 47 guns with them. As they got to the checkpoint, they began to shoot sporadically at the officers, killing four of them, while the fifth person managed to escape the scene.
It was equally reported that the attackers were most likely dealers of Indian Hemp.
Although no one has been arrested in connection to the killings yet, the commander of NDLEA in the state, Mr. Haruna Gagara assured that the agency has begun to work with other security forces to ensure that the suspects are apprehended.
Haruna equally mentioned that the suspects carted away rifles belonging to the officers they killed, while they burnt their patrol vehicle.
