A Twitter user, Michael Neuman has raised the alarm over his N285,683.64 allegedly stuck in Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
Tweeting from @neumanmikky, the Twitter user said the transactions that led to the issue occurred on December 17, 2021 at Mariott Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
He said he user a Point-Of-Sale (POS) machine to pay for a 3-night hotel accommodation because the popular hotel would not accept cash.
According to him, he was first debited without value on his Zenith Bank card but the funds were reversed to his account after three days.
He explained that the same issue occurred on his GTBank card and for nearly two months the bank has refused to refund him despite many complaints.

So @gtbank have been unreliable and I think it’s about time they are called out even though i’m a rookie on twitter. On the 17th of Dec 2021, I was at Mariott hotel in Ikeja Lagos where I initiated a payment of N285,683.64 for a 3 nights hotel accommodation.

Let me let you all into how this played out In detail. Upon arriving the hotel, I was asked to use my card to make payment since they won’t accept cash. They gave me a POS which I used with my @ZenithBank card and got debited WITHOUT value. That means the transaction failed. pic.twitter.com/rBMXz6Is1w

Mind you, @ZenithBank refunded the money after about 2/3days and I praise their efficiency and service, something it seems @gtbank lacks and I wonder why I or anyone else should keep trusting them with finances. So back to the events of the day. pic.twitter.com/XC7BMpLi3J

After the failed transaction, I then used my @gtbank card on the same POS, of course with the thought that zenith card was the issue then I got another debit from GTB but no value as I got the attached slip printed. Even with a transaction timeout, I was erroneously debited. pic.twitter.com/G1sBpl7qrQ

The hotel concierge then brought another POS machine which I tried using the with the same @gtbank debit card upon which I got a successful debit and value as seen in the attached image. @officialEFCC please follow through oo so they can return my N285,683.64. pic.twitter.com/1ezs8N8LDx

On the 18th of December 2021, I then called my account officer for the first time o and the mumu lady says there is nothing she can do. I was so disgusted that I dropped the call after which I lodged a complaint from the @gtbank_help @gtbank mobile platform. pic.twitter.com/1DtNz4ut0g

By the way guys, an intern in @gtbank receives about 100k oo. Find here the screenshot of my statement @cenbank pic.twitter.com/1vwiu4B1c6

Immediately, I reached out to them on WhatsApp hoping to have all this resolved but no head way. I visited the magodo branch of @gtbank on 5 different occasions and on one of the visits, the ill trained staff had the effrontery to send me back to Marriott. Again, I was calm.

I’m like “Shey emi niyen n ba soro ni”. Well I sha ignored him as a calm guy that I am. I called their Gtconnect several times with my airtime and they kept blaming the merchant. Honestly it just felt as though they were joking with my sanity. I trusted @gtbank and they failed.

Anyways fast forward to today, I’m yet to get any reasonable update from @gtbank and I have tried to report to @cenbank but it seems they are not getting my petition. Abi is it a crime to be poor in this country ni. The little change we have, they still want to steal from us.
— Michael N. (@neumanmikky) February 4, 2022
@gtbank you guys should better act quickly because the next time I walk into any branch, I’d loose all sense of decency I was trained with oo. Please I beg you, return my money so I can eat food na. Abi waris all this now? @officialEFCC make Una note am oo. Good day
