The Campaign for Democracy group (CD) has given the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration a 14-days ultimatum to call off the ban on rice importation.
The group, while handing down the ultimatum in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday, stated that lifting the ban on rice importation will reduce the suffering, hunger and suicidal actions of the masses.
The group, through its national Publicity Secretary, Dede Uzor Uzor further added that since the Buhari-led administration has no concrete incentive plan for farmers to boost local production of rice for consumption, the Federal Government should call off the ban on importation of the important commodity.
“With Nigeria being unable to grow enough rice for the population of about 180 million, continued placement of ban on it would only aggravate the situation and cause more harm than good,” Dede Uzor Uzor noted.
