A budget-monitoring initiative, Tracka, has called out the senator for Abia North in the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, for allegedly tagging constituency projects as “donation”.
Tracka is an initiative of popular civic organisation, BudgIT, created to enable “citizens to collaborate, track and give feedback on public projects in their community”.
In a series of tweets via its Twitter handle @TrackaNG on Wednesday, it said that N20 million was allocated in the 2020 Budget for the supply of motorcycles in Kalu’s constituency.

“We confirmed the motorcycles were supplied and labelled as DONATION by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” it tweeted.
Tagging the senator on the social media platform, Tracka added, “Dear Sen @OUKtweets We reiterate that constituency projects should not be labelled as donations by community representatives in the National Assembly; this is a malicious attempt at deliberately misinforming their constituents, for selfish political interests,” Tracka tweeted.
The senator could not be immediately reached for comments.
However, a series of tweets from the senator’s handle on August 12 stated, “After joint consultations,Motorbikes, Power Generators, were among other items which I distributed to my constituents in Umunneochi LGA.
“This gesture is in response to their demands for items to support their SME,s and mobility for their farming activities.
“Let also note this exercise will be carried out in batches, specifically to other constituents that did not benefit , plans have also been concluded to rebuild the Aro Ikpa road in the next few months. I encourage the beneficiaries to make good judicious use of the items.”
