A father grieving the untimely death of his five-year-old son would have joined him in the grave but for the quick response of the police in Lagos.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) made this known in a tweet on Tuesday.

Hundeyin explained that the father lost his son and his family instructed him to bring the corpse to the village for burial.

The police spokesman added that the father and one other person went to the bus terminal in the process of transporting the corpse to the village.

According to Hundeyin, passersby noticed the duo and raised alarm.

He said that this attracted a mob that wanted to lynch them.

The police spokesman said that only the timely intervention of the police saved the father and his partner from being lynched.

Hundeyin advised residents to avoid situations that could draw suspicion to them.

“A 5yr old boy took ill & died overnight.

“Family insisted he be buried in the village.

“Father and one other went to bus terminal with corpse.

“Passersby raised alarm and resorted to lynching.

“Police came to the rescue.

“At all cost, avoid bringing dangerous suspicion on yourself,” Hundeyin said.
